Honda EU3000iS is packed with many useful and protective features. It can be started conveniently with a push of a button. Before pressing the button, make sure that the safety switch is on. A pull start is also provided in case the battery dies, and it takes two to three attempts to start the generator using a pull start.
Many generators, even though the load connected is low, consume the same amount of fuel as they would have done when running on a full load. But, with the eco-throttle mode on, this generator regulates the fuel consumption depending on the load connected. This makes the Honda EU3000iS highly efficient.
When it comes to safety, there shouldn’t be any compromise. Honda, as you will see, has taken safety measures very seriously. The generator can protect itself effectively. When the load connected to it increases more than its capacity, the engine will turn itself off and glow the overload light.
There is also a low oil light, and it will glow when the oil level is low. If you ignore the warning and keep the generator running, then it will shut itself off to protect the engine from any damage.
Performance
This is a reasonably powerful generator that provides enough power to run more than few appliances simultaneously. It is capable of providing a maximum of 2800 watts of power.
Even when this generator runs at its full capacity, it only makes a noise level of 58 dB. That is the lowest noise any generator will make while running at its full capacity. Moving on, the generator has a fuel tank size of 3.4 gallons, and this will keep the generator running for about 7 hours at its full capacity.
This runtime makes the generator very suitable for camping trips, and it also gets you through the night when the power outage occurs.
Another worth considering thing is that it won’t run satisfactorily after a certain altitude. It will only work if it isn’t above the 5000 feet altitude. For every 1000 feet increase in altitude, the engine’s ability to generate the power decreases; it loses 3.5% of HP after every 1000 feet increment.
The generator is also easy to maintain, it only requires a periodic oil replacement and routine checkup, and if done properly, then it will work like a charm even after 5 years of use.
Design
Honda EU3000iS has an elegant and pleasing box-shaped design. It is quite attractive and easy on the eyes while also being durable and robust.
From the point of view of portability, it lacks wheels at the bottom, so it will be a hard task to move it around. Besides, it is quite heavy. Two handles are provided on each side of the unit, but we advise you not to move it single-handedly as the weight of the unit is about 130 pounds.
The plus point is that compatible wheel kits are available on the market. If you are someone who moves a lot, then they are worth the investment.
Also, the control panel on the unit is quite nice and offers easy access to all the outlets and switches. It has two 120 V outlets with a 20 A current rating. Also, there is one 120 V 30 A current rating outlet to power more demanding appliances.
Note that it lacks USB outlets and 220 outlets, but it has a 12V, 12A, 144W DC outlet generally to charge automobile batteries. Other than that, the control panel consists of a push-button start, a safety key, and some indicator lights.
The downside of Honda EU3000iS
This is a really excellent unit, it is reliable and provides clean power. Perfectness is an ideal term; nothing on this earth is perfect, everything has its drawbacks, and this generator also has them.
No doubt the fuel you will use to run the generator will be clean and without any dirt or debris, but sometimes they are not. And if that debris reaches the carburetor, then it gets clogged and creates many kinds of problems.
To avoid that, most manufacturers include the fuel filter just before the carburetor to filter out excessive and unwanted things from the fuel.
But sadly, that filter is not there in this generator, and it would have been nice to have one.
Other than that, as already mentioned, the generator doesn’t come with any extra accessories. At this price point, it could have encouraged more consumers to buy the product if they have included those accessories with the generator, rather than making them buy it separately.
Also, there are no USB outlets on the control panels, so you can’t charge your electronics directly from the unit. You will need a power strip to do that.
Should You Buy It
In our opinion, you should definitely buy it if you are looking for a long-term permanent backup power solution. With this generator, the honda has once again delivered the product, which boasts quality and is durable.
It has a convenient electric start for effortless starting. A sleek and modern design with essential safety features makes it worth the price.
One thing to keep in mind before making a decision is that the generator is quite heavy, and you will need a friend if you want to move it around. Also, there are no wheels at the bottom, but there is an option of a wheel kit.
This is an extremely good home backup solution, as it provides a runtime of 20 hours on a moderate load. Moreover, if any fault occurs during the first three years of the purchase of this generator, then it will be the company’s responsibility to repair it because it comes with a 3-year warranty.
